Be classified as a “Public Charity” with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Individual or private foundations are not eligible)

Have two full fiscal years of financial statements and completed tax filings for the past year

Our Grants
For the 2026 grant cycle, grants were awarded to local nonprofits providing humane care and essential resources to homeless, stray, and vulnerable dogs and cats living in the city of Detroit.

2026 Focus Area: Animal Welfare in Detroit
The Day Charitable Trust is proud to support nonprofit organizations working to improve the lives of vulnerable animals and pet families in Detroit. The following organizations were selected as 2026 grant recipients for their commitment to compassionate care, community-based services, and meaningful impact.
Michigan Humane
$12,000
This grant supports Michigan Humane’s Affordable Community Vet Care program, which brings accessible veterinary services directly into Detroit neighborhoods through mobile and pop-up clinics.
By expanding access to preventive care and reducing financial barriers, the program helps families keep their pets healthy, at home, and out of the shelter system.

Rebel Dogs Detroit
$7,500
This grant supports Rebel Dogs Detroit’s foster care program, providing essential supplies and resources for dogs placed in temporary homes. By equipping foster families with food, equipment, and ongoing support, the program expands rescue capacity and helps more dogs transition from the streets to safe, stable homes.

Dog Aide
$5,000
This grant supports Dog Aide’s Heartworm Prevention Program, which provides free testing and year-round prevention medication to dogs in Detroit. By removing financial barriers to care, the program protects dogs from a deadly but preventable disease while helping families maintain the health and well-being of their pets.

All About Animals
$3,500
This grant supports All About Animals Rescue’s efforts to provide no-cost spay and neuter services for owned and community cats in Detroit. By preventing unwanted litters and reducing overpopulation, the program improves animal welfare while supporting healthier communities.
